Lycodon Odissi – a new snake species discovered from Orissa

A new snake species has been discovered by a group of herpetologists from Ganjam district of Orissa state of India.

The new species of snake is reported to be non-venomous and nocturnal. It is similar to another species of snake found in Orissa named Lycodon jara, the twin spotted wolf snake. It is different to Lycodon jara as it has a white collar around its neck.

The herpetologists who have the credit of the discovery of this new snake species named it Lycodon odissi.This name shows tribute to both the state of Orissa and its cultural dance Odissi.
